Legacies season 4 brings back two Originals stars

A Mikaelson family reunion.

Legacies season 4 spoilers follow.

Legacies is bringing back two Originals castmembers for an upcoming season four episode.

TV Line has confirmed that the show's April 14 episode, titled 'Everything That Can Be Lost May Also Be Found', will feature Nathaniel Buzolic (as Kol Mikaelson) and Charles Michael Davis (as Marcel Gerard).

But Kol and Marcel won't be the only Originals castmembers to cross over to the spin-off show. Claire Holt (Rebekah Mikaelson) and Riley Voelkel (Freya Mikaelson), who have both guest-starred previously, will also appear in the episode.

The episode's synopsis reads: "Hope continues to be swirled in confusion and fighting her humanity, which results in her seeing the people who mean the most to her: Rebekah, Marcel, Kol and Freya."

Speaking to TV Line about featuring Originals' characters, Legacies showrunner Brett Matthews admitted that "the Mikaelson family is welcome to visit anytime, always and forever".

He continued: "It is a joy to revisit these characters and the talent who plays them. COVID makes this hard, scheduling makes this hard, and they’re all so gifted — they’re very busy. But if they can’t travel in from New Orleans, we may just have to go to them."

The big return comes after it was recently revealed that the role of Marcel Gerard was almost played by The Mandalorian's Pedro Pascal, who made it to the final rounds of casting before Charles Michael Davis bagged the role.

The character first appeared in the season 4 The Originals backdoor pilot episode of The Vampire Diaries.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly last year, The Vampire Diaries executive producer Julie Plec explained: "One of the other people who read opposite Charles for that part was Pedro Pascal, who I loved. I was obsessed with him, but he was just on the older side."

She recalled that the crew was "like 'Oh my God, Charles Michael Davis, Charles Michael Davis,' blown away and so excited – and of course I loved him and was so happy we cast him – but I was in full Pedro Pascal fangirl mode."

Pascal is a whole decade older than Davis, who was 28 when they competed for the role in 2013.

Plec added: "But Charles, he just had that swagger and you needed somebody with that kind of swagger to operate and breathe in the same place as Klaus [Joseph Morgan].

"So it was thrilling that he came in and everybody across the board, everybody was like, he's the guy, he’s the guy, no question."

Legacies airs on The CW in the US.
