Lena Headey is back with a thriller role alongside Avatar star Sam Worthington.
Directed and written by Gigi Gaston, the film sees Headey as Gypsy, a former burlesque dancer now working as an author. When she vows to take care of a young boy (Dean Scott Vazquez) and his dog after his parents get murdered, she is threatened by former lover and gang leader Jack (Worthington).
The protagonist then must go on the run to protect herself and her new friend from Jack's men.
9 Bullets is inspired by real-life burlesque dancer Gypsy Rose Lee, whose 1957 memoir was adapted in the 1959 musical Gypsy.
Alongside Headey, Worthington and Vazquez, the film also stars Cam Gigandet, Barbara Hershey and Marlene Forte.
Starring in an action-packed thriller isn't the only trick Headey has up her sleeve as of late.
She recently announced she is set to direct her first feature film, an adaptation of SJI Holliday's psychological thriller novel Violet.
The film follows two solo female travellers who join forces on the last leg of their adventure before finding out none of them has really told the truth to the other.
"Susi's Violet is a compulsive page-turner that stayed with me long after I finished the book – it's exciting that my first feature as a director will be such an intense female thriller," the director said in a statement after the movie was announced.
"It's a wild ride to the finish with vast cinematic scope, centring around two very complex women who will completely unravel over the course of the film. I can't wait to get rolling."
9 Bullets will be in cinemas and available on demand in the US on April 22, 2022, with a UK release date to be confirmed.
