EastEnders' Ross Kemp addresses whether he'd return to soap

"You never say never in this game."

Ross Kemp has spoken on the possibility of returning to EastEnders as Grant Mitchell, and it looks like he's not ruling it out.

The star played the iconic character back in the 1990s, returning for a short stint in the mid-2000s and again in 2016 for Barbra Windsor's final episodes as on-screen mum Peggy.

However, it seems that Ross is open to another stint as Grant, with the star responding to the idea of a return during an appearance on The One Show last night (March 10).

"You never say never in this game," he replied. "Never say never. Rule out nothing. Rule out nothing at my age."

The actor and presenter was also asked about whether he enjoyed a big storyline akin to the current Gray Atkins drama on Albert Square when he was on the soap. After all, Grant was central to one of the soap's biggest storylines in the Sharongate saga of 1994.

"The weird thing about was always that you'd shot it sometime before, so you were often wrapped up with what you were doing next because you were seven weeks ahead of transmission," he recalled.

"So you'd be in the supermarket and [people would be] going, 'I saw what you did last night.' And I'm going, 'I really can't remember what I did last night… what did I do?' So big storylines, in those days it was 25 million viewers tuning in."

Back in 2020, Ross similarly seemed open to the idea of a return to the soap, telling Entertainment Daily at the time: "I don't think you ever rule it out. But that would be down to the BBC, that's not down to me. I would never say no to going back to anything.

"I've always enjoyed acting and if an acting role came along, I would take it if it was something that I thought I would enjoy."

Earlier that year, Ross revealed how his casting as Grant came completely by chance after a failed audition for The Bill.

EastEnders airs on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
